President's CitationThere was a surprise visit to ‘Barking Mad’, the home of Tim and Janice Mason, from the immediate past District Governor David  Houghton who brought news of not one but two Certificates.   Tim, our immediate past President said: “To gain the President’s Citation we had to undertake over the year aspects of the following criteria, 2012-13 Presidential Challenge, Strengthen Our Club, Increase our Service, Enhance Our Club’s Public Image. We achieved all of these by a tremendous effort by the team; in having a very active website and Click for Action News Update. The projects recognised included setting up the Interact Club at Uplands and our Autism Awareness Campaign, our Peace Symposium online, our innovative approaches to attracting new members and increasing our diversity”  “We were one of only 12 Clubs in District 1100 which received this citation,so we can be very proud of this achievement”.

RI CertificateTim went on to say: “The Certificates for Membership Development and the Extension Award for Growth for the most members to be recruited is awarded by Rotary International.   It was a complete surprise and again shows the great strides we took in our first year as an eClub.

 

 

making squareMaking squares for a fabulous one off quilt at Uplands school.   the Interact Club headed up by Interact President Tom have decided to suppport the ‘Roll out the Barrel’ campaign by making a quilt to sell with the students painting on 8 inch squares ready for Mary to stitch them together. Mary Loran shares her experiences as a volunteer at the Uplands School Interact club.

On Friday Janice and Tim took a trip to the Over Fifties Show, an exhibition which brings together a range of seminars and activities for people in the prime of their life! They were invited to attend as part of the Rotary Sales Team at Rotary’s first exhibition as part of the membership challenge.   Here is Janice looking very fetching in yellow!

 

Jackie inductionNew Members. This week we welcomed another member to Rotary with the induction of Jackie Smith Head of Uplands and teacher David Stevens.

@my_250Supporting Malala day   Yesterday at 2.30pm UK time  Malala Yousafzai, now sixteen years old and the survivor of an horrific attack by the Taliban in October 2012, spoke at the United Nations.  She gave a brilliant and impassioned plea for peace and education for all.  Hopefully recorded because we can learn so much from this young woman who bears no malice and still continues to fight for the rights of women and children.  Find out more here

Jazz-jazz-20060506-75-75Stop Press volunteers wanted:  Can you help on RC Marlborough  and District on 20th July?  They are looking for a couple of volunteers to help them with car parking for the Jazz Festival . Two hour stints but most importantly between 2pm -4pm.  All proceeds to Rotary charities.
